About Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Resort
History
La Jolla, CA. It was the late 1940s. An affluent family named Black purchased a prime parcel of land from the prominent Scripps family in the coastal village near San Diego. The Blacks soon turned the nearly ten acres into an equestrian estate and training ground for young thoroughbreds.
Today, Estancia La Jolla resides on the same distinguished land — that of an early California rancho-style setting. A decade-in-the-making, the 210-guestroom luxury hotel, world-class spa and certified conference destination officially opened to guests in the summer of 2004. By May of 2005, Estancia La Jolla had already achieved the status of one of the “Hottest New Hotels of the World” by Condé Nast Traveler as well as the coveted “Four-Diamond” rating awarded by AAA, among others.
Conveniently located adjacent to the University of California at San Diego, 14 miles from downtown, and minutes from celebrated beaches, golf courses and major attractions, Estancia La Jolla is the newest crown jewel of the historic city of La Jolla.
Managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts, and inspired by the rich history of the property, Estancia La Jolla also pays homage to the rancho-style architecture and landscape first introduced to Southern California in the 1800s by Spanish colonizers.
Estancia La Jolla carefully blends the historical with the natural environment, including California native gardens, a world-class pool and spa, nearly 26,000 square feet of indoor meeting, dining and event space — as well as a variety of year-round outdoor venues. By embodying a symbiotic relationship with the outdoors and interiors, Estancia La Jolla makes for an overall relaxed and serene experience, and one that celebrates the idyllic coastal climate for all who visit — families, business travelers and groups alike — with the warmth of a past era and the comfort of modern luxury. In every way, Estancia La Jolla invites the senses to explore, and the space to inspire.
